The Cresskill Office of Emergency Management (OEM) was established in 1988. Cresskill's OEM works in cooperation with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the New Jersey State Police Office of Emergency Management, and the Bergen County Police Office of Emergency Management.
The mission of the Creskill OEM is to coordinate all departments in the Borough during a natural or man made disaster. These might include: blizzards, hurricanes, airplane crashes, power failures and water main breaks.
During a disaster, the OEM is responsible for getting the resources of the Borough as well as resources from other local municipalities at the request of the Incident Commander of the scene. If deemed necessary, additional assistance can be provided by the Bergen County Police OEM, and the NJ State Police OEM.
Cresskill's OEM is equipped with one truck. The truck is a 6 wheel 1975 Chevy with a 454 engine. It was the Cresskill Ambulance prior to 1988. Inmates at the county jail refurbished the truck, removing dents, painting it green and white, as well as adding the lettering. The truck is responsible for responding to any major emergencies in the Borough.
The OEM truck acts as a mobile command post during emergencies. It is equipped with radio equipment to allow for complete communications with all local, county and state agencies. Other equipment includes cellular telephones, mobile fax machines, laptop computer and printer, and hazardous materials supplies.
The OEM truck is the first to respond to any situation where there could be a hazardous material spill, to provide for the cleanup and containment of spill.
