All residents are required to separate glass, aluminum, plastics, tin & steel containers from garbage.
Use a reusable container. This can be a garbage can, plastic, bucket, pail-any container that can be lifted and left out in the weather. All glass, aluminum, steel, tin cans and plastic containers will be placed together in the container and left curbside for pick up on designated Saturdays by 7:00 AM.
GlassAcceptable: All bottles and jars (clear and colored). Rinse Clean. Remove and dispose of rings and lids.
Aluminium Cans Only
Not Acceptable: Do not include dishes, pottery, mirrors, plate glass, pyrex, light bulbs, crystal or broken glass.Acceptable: Deposit and non-deposit aluminum cans only.
Tin and Metal Cans
Not Acceptable: (Unless Rinsed) No pie plates, T.V. dinner plates, aluminum foil (they go in garbage).Acceptable: Steel, tin and mixed metal cans. Remove labels and rinse clean. You may remove bottoms and flatten cans.
PlasticAcceptable: Soda, liquor, spring water, milk, apple cider, and detergents. Also all HDPE and PETE.
Newspapers and Magazines
Not Aceptable: Other plastic products such as mouthwash, oil,syrup, squeezable, pharmaceuticals (including aspirin), all hair and cosmetics, all household chemical plastic containers, plastic sandwich bags, toys, buckets, and molded food containers (they go in the garbage).Acceptable: Newspapers, and all inserts , as well magazines which have been bagged or bundled and tied (no more than 30 lbs. or 12 inches high). Do not put in cardboard boxes or plastic bags.
Grass
Not Acceptable: (Unless Flattened and Bundled) Corrugated cardboard is not picked up but may be brought to the Recycling Center, 325 Pieront Road, daily and Saturday until 3:00PM.Acceptable: On Tuesdays, ay 1 thru November 1, grass clippings, garden debris and vegetation waste may be placed curbside in a garbage can no larger than 30 gal. capacity. Branches should be tied up and placed curbside.
Leaves
Not acceptable: Any of above packed in plastic or paper bags.Acceptable: Piled leaves on improved streets will be collected by the Public Works Department from October through December 15th. They must be at curb free from sticks and stones. Schedule will be published in early fall and posted in the Borough Hall. The Public Works Department will pick up bagged leaves on unimproved roads only from October 15 to December 15. Bagged leaves will be collected from all roads during April on Thursdays.
MiscellaneousChristmas Trees: Picked up at the curb in January on regular collection days.
Clothing: Salvation Army Container - Residents may bring old clothing, shoes, curtains amd blankets to the Recycling Center, 325 Piermont Rd.
Used Motor Oil: Used motor oil can be deposited at Recycling Center. Tires: Residents may bring used tires and rims separately to the Recycling Center (remove rims).
Note: When purchasing new tires or major appliances, residents should insist that the vendor take the old tires or appliances. Appliances: The following items will be collected on the first Friday of each month: washers, dryers, stoves, dishwashers, hot water heaters with permits, air conditioners and refrigerators. All items will be collected from the curb only. Any resident that requires this service should call the Department of Public Works to arrange for the collection.
