Bryan School Traffic

The traffic situation this school year has improved. Parents are adhering to the new signs that are posted. There seems to be a better flow of traffic. We must remember that the police and community are trying to work together to ensure the safety of the children.

Listed below are reminders of the traffic ordinances:

  1. On the field side of Brookside Avenue from the North end of Bryan field, South to Prospect Street, there will be "standing only" from 8 AM to 9 AM and again from 2:30 PM to 4 PM. Parking allowed all other times.
  2. On the school side of Brookside Avenue from the North end of school property to the school driveway, there will be "No Parking, Standing Only" from 8 AM to 9 AM and 2:30 PM to 4 PM.
  3. Parking will be allowed on the West side of Brookside from the South side of the Bryan School driveway, onto and beyond Prospect Street.
  4. Short Place South end will be closed to vehicle traffic during the hours of 8 AM to 4 PM except for the three residents of that portion of roadway.
  5. Short Place between Lexington and Grant will have "No Stopping Or Standing" during the school hours (8 AM to 4 PM) posed on the West side of the street. Parking will be allowed on the East side of Short Place from Lexington Avenue to Grant Avenue.
  6. A portable stop sign is in place at the intersection of Short Place and Lexington Avenue for East and West bound traffic on Lexington Avenue - Monday to Friday from 8 AM to 4 PM. Before and after school hours, you do not need to stop at that intersection.
  7. The intersection of Jefferson Avenue and Lexington Avenue will become a four-way stop.
  8. An additional crossing area and crossing guard was hired and placed near the Bryan School driveway adjacent to the preschool/kindergarten.

Police will also enforce seat belt laws upon parents who do not secure their children in moving vehicles, and other infraction deemed to be reckless or careless driving which is witnessed by an officer or a crossing guard.
