The Watershed Project
A new curriculum that focuses on the Hackensack River and Passaic River
Watersheds has been implemented in the fifth grade science program. Ms.
Jusinski participated in training in the (RST)2 II program at Ramapo College in
order to bring this new project to Bryan School. Fifth grade students will
integrate science, mathematics, and technology to study Cresskill's portion of
the Hackensack Watershed, the Tenakill Brook. Students will conduct monthly
water quality studies of the Tenakill. Knowledge gained through their water
testing will be shared, via the Internet, with other school districts taking
part in the Watershed Project, as well as with the New Jersey Department of
Environmental Protection. In addition to field studies, students will also take
part in classroom simulations which will enable them to access satellite images
and historical data sets pertaining to the Passaic and Hackensack Watersheds.
